Hello guys,

The other day i got some time off and sneaked to visit "Elsewhere: Paul Gauguin." In that exhibition, one piece of art entitled "Three Tahitians" piqued my interests. This is basically a painting of one Tahitian man standing between two Tahitian women, one of whom holding a bouquet of flowers whereas the other a temptingly rouge apple. Some critics interpret this painting by saying that the man is in fact the projection of Gauguin, who found himself constantly caught between raw sexuality and sublime virtues. This piece serves as a satiristic reminder for those hypocrites who dare not admit choosing the apple.

From this interesting painting comes the questions i would like us to discuss:
1) If we go along with the interpretation mentioned above, what would you think of the man opting for the woman holding an apple?
2) How about the other possibility? What if the man chose the flower girl, what would you think of him?
3) If you yourself are to choose between "inside personality" and "outside appearance", what would be your choice? What pre-conditions will come into play?
4) If this painting, to some level, reflects Sigmund Freud's theory of "Structure of Mind"(where id, ego, and superego coordinate to strive a balanced mindhttp://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/understanding-the-id-ego-and-superego-in-psycholog.html), what other situations, where you struggle between instinct and conscience, come to your mind?
5) How do you view "desires" and "order"? You would like your country to have a bit more of which element? Consider the Egyption and Athenian civilizations.

Hope this is an interesting topic!
See you guys on Tuesday. Until then, stay healthy :P
