A Brand New Start!?

Hi all,

With you talking about the 5 buzz words that nicely wrapped up 2010, this week by the time we meet, we will have marched into a brand new year. Thought it can't be more cliched, i would like to invite you all to draw up your own new year resolution(s).B (people are greedy, don't we? Bet few people would content themselves with only ONE wish!)

Before you roll up your sleeves and get to the thinking, let's take a look at the most wished-upon plans people have made which may give you some ideas:

Also, please be prepared to talk about the following questions:
1) What were your new year resolutions made in the inception of 2010? Were they realized in 2010?
2) What are your new year resolutions for 2011? What are the motives behind those resolutions?
When you are plotting your plans, what conditions do you factor in?

Having customized your own new year resolutions, you are very likely to face THE MOST challenging part of this deed; that is, putting them into practice. Yes, resolutions are notoriously difficult to keep! So, to avoid failed resolutions or at least to do some damage control, here are some suggestions:

and let's have your say:
3) What are other possible strategies you have tried or heard of to help us stick to the resolutions?

Finally, as a final touch to this issue, i would like to invite you to revisit the very concept of "New Year Resolutions". To get a sense of what that might be, please read the following article:

and also please think about questions below:
4) Do you agree with the writer that New Year Resolutions are oftentimes the sugarcoated purpuit of perfection that may well drain us down to the emptiness?
5) (well, really don't want to get too philosophical in case hector should have another bad night sleep :P (just joking). So No.5 question is "If resolution often implies change, what is your New year resolution for our study group?

See you guys on tuesday!
ps. i finally upload my post on time...T-T (cheers!!!)
